About
VISUAL DIRECTION is a design agency that focuses on organic marketing, slow media, meaningful content creation and thoughtful engagement.
I will help you cultivate spaces that feel inspiring, authentic and nurturing. You and your audience will feel safe, seen and valued. Social media is a powerful tool to share your work and connect with people from all over the world. It can be used to create friendships, build community, solve problems, educate, comfort and inspire others. The shadow side is exhibitionism versus intentional content that is for the community you are here to help. It is so easy to get overwhelmed by comparison, feel anxiety over what and when to share, or experience a fear of being seen.
I am here to help you overcome doubt and to tell your story with empathy, beauty, and integrity.
Brand identity, content creation, copywriting, web design and social media management can take a lot of time away from your core work - yet it is an essential way to establish your brand and grow your audience. This work is so valuable and I love what I do!
My story
I feel most alive when I discover, create, collaborate and experience beauty and harmony in nature, art and humanity. I care deeply about social and environmental justice issues and about ways we may heal ourselves so that we may heal the Earth. We all depend on nature, there is no such thing as “away” and I believe that human ingenuity, systems thinking and education will help us redesign systems that restore ecological communities and the health of all living things.
The feelings I receive while sitting at the edge of the shore looking out at the ocean, walking through a forest under a canopy of trees, or simply being in the presence of loved ones is what I want to feel in designed spaces; whether virtual or tangible. A feeling that brings the beauty of the outdoors in, embraces mindful and slow living, curates a sense of connectedness, and balances both utility and unity. I work with people that want their brand to be a reflection of their values and the community they want to help.
In addition to my skills, I have gathered many experiences on my way to discovering what I love and do best. I have over twenty years of experience working in the field of sustainability. I have a BS in Environmental Studies from the University of Vermont where I integrated my interests in the environment, design, wellness and education. My final thesis focused on ecological design in terms of fashion, furniture and products; research that supported the forecasting of an emerging “green” market. I designed and made my own furniture and fashion using found and recycled materials and studied designers and think tanks paving the way such as William McDonough and Buckminster Fuller.
After I graduated college on the East Coast, I moved out to California with a small suitcase, no vehicle and a tiny room with a view of the Redwoods. While there, I co-founded an environmental and community space “Green City Gallery’ in downtown Berkeley with a group of ecological designers. I curated art shows with eco artists and received press for running an all day eco fashion event that hosted a natural dye workshop with the Permacouture Institute.
In 2008 I moved back to New York City and worked as a sustainable textile researcher for a non profit organization bridging the gap between top fashion designers and textile vendors all over the world. In addition I taught classes in vermicomposting and sustainable design at an urban environmental center.
I continued to pursue my education getting certified to teach both yoga and permaculture, and received my Masters in Place-Based Education mentoring with David Sobel. After teaching for several years in the public school system I had the opportunity to help co-found a progressive charter school as their Sustainability Coordinator.
After becoming a mother of two boys, we moved our family to Cape Cod where we now call home. I started my own company utilizing my talents and experience towards digital marketing and design for conscious brands.
When I am not making art, practicing ecotherapy, gardening, swimming in the sea, or running after my young ones - I feel most at peace in these times working with clients towards a shared vision.
It brings me a deep sense of joy and gratitude to do creative work that contributes to healing communities and the natural world.
